This week's essay is written by local photographer Zack Bowen. Bowen is a professional photographer with an emphasis on food and has done shots for area restaurants such as Bar Lola, Blue Spoon, Duckfat, Emilitsa and Hugo's. To view his portfolio, click here."Breaking the Maine Shell" is an excellent example of Bukowskian expressionism as Bowen leads the reader on a trip across the country, sharing the history of how he came to love food after moving to Portland. It really is an excellent read.

Again, I would like to welcome anyone who is interested in being a part of the series to submit an essay.
Rules & Details:
- Each essay must be one to three pages in length.
- Even if in the most backwards way possible, the essay must involve a culinary experience (of ANY kind) and Maine. Use your imagination - that's the whole point!
- No "My Favorite Place For Bacon And Eggs." The intention of these essays is for them to be less about food per-say and more about the author. In other words, voyeuristic in the same vein as a typical memoir.

A photographer AND a writer...there has to be a niche business for that. Nice job, Zack. Very impressive.
